Soccer News 2024/09/05 09:46
After three seasons in League B, French Guiana climbed up the CONCACAF standings after a strong finish to the last Nations League campaign.
Jean-Claude Darcheville's side started the campaign slowly, picking up one point from their first two games and going scoreless in the process, but they picked up nine points from their last three matches to overtake Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for promotion.
French Guiana have suffered only one defeat at the Dr Edmard Lama Municipal Stadium in their three previous Nations League campaigns, a 1-0 loss to Belize last September, but won their next two matches there by a combined score of 6-2.
Their three victories in last year's League B group phase came when they scored first, while their two defeats came when they conceded the opening goal.
French Guiana have never lost their opening match in the Nations League and have never conceded on the opening day of the tournament.
Friday's clash will be their first on the international stage, and Les Yana Dokos have won three of their four home Nations League matches against Central American opposition, with their only defeat coming against Belize last year (2-0).
A year after losing their place in League A for fielding an ineligible player, Nicaragua have left no doubt about their place in the 2023-24 Nations League.
Marco Antonio Figueroa's side went unbeaten in the tournament last year, winning five of their six matches and conceding just once.
The Nicaraguans go into the game on a three-match unbeaten run in all competitions, having won their two second-round World Cup qualifiers by a combined margin of 8-1.
In the last two Nations League seasons, Nicaragua have not lost a single game away from home, with a 100% record as visitors in this tournament a year ago.
Their only two defeats in three Nations League seasons have come when they have conceded the opening goal, and they have never won when they have conceded the opening goal in this competition.
La Azul y Blanco have never lost to a Caribbean side in the Nations League, although they were beaten 1-0 by Cuba in a friendly earlier this year.
