Preview: North Korea vs Qatar

North Korea failed to make a winning start to their Group A campaign on 5 September, going down 1-0 to Uzbekistan, with Jaloliddin Masharipov scoring the only goal of the match in the 20th minute.


Korea Republic will be seeking to qualify for their third World Cup, having reached the quarter-finals at England 1966 and the group stage at South Africa 2010.


Sin Yong-nam's side finished second in Group B behind Japan to reach the next stage, winning three and losing three of their six matches.


North Korea played Jordan twice in friendly matches at the end of August, drawing 0-0 in the first before losing 2-1, and will be looking for their first win since 11 June when they take on Qatar.

Qatar, meanwhile, were also beaten in their Group A opener last time out, taking the lead through Ibrahim Al Hassan in the 38th minute but then conceding three goals in the second period to suffer a home defeat.


Tintin Marquez's side finished top of Group A in the second round of qualifying, picking up 16 points from their six games with a record of five wins and one defeat to finish comfortably at the top.


Qatar qualified for the 2022 World Cup as hosts, but lost all three of their matches to crash out at the group stage.


The national team have a record of five wins, one draw and one defeat in their 2026 qualifiers, but will be under pressure to get a positive result on Tuesday.


The two sides last met at the Asian Cup in January 2019, when Qatar ran out 6-0 winners, and they are unbeaten against North Korea since 2010.
