Feisty Chelsea clash with Bournemouth breaks Premier League record for yellow cards

Taylor dished out 14 bookings from 25 fouls between both teams, with a large number of yellows coming from dissent and unsportsmanlike behaviour. Bournemouth were also given a first-half penalty, leading to a yellow for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, while both managers were also booked during the tight affair, although those do not count towards the record.

Chelsea edged to victory at the Vitality Stadium despite being on the back foot for large portions of the game, with Christopher Nkunku finishing in the 86th minute after debutant Jadon Sancho found him inside the box. The result puts Enzo Maresca's side in seventh place with two wins from their opening four games.

The previous record of 13 bookings came last season in Tottenham's 2-1 win over Sheffield United, which saw Ange Postecoglou's side score two goals in second-half stoppage time to record a dramatic victory. United finished the game with 10 men after Oli McBurnie was shown a second yellow card in the final minute of the game to break the record.

Chelsea have a week's break while many of their rivals play in cup competition, with Maresca's men not in action until next Saturday when they visit London rivals West Ham.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, travel to Anfield to face a Liverpool side reeling from their first defeat under Arne Slot after a losing to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
