Le Tissier, 22, was named the captain of the Red Devils last month as she replaced former leader Katie Zelem, who left the club at the end of the 2023-24 season to join NWSL side Angel City. While Le Tissier was handed over the captain's armband, the current most-capped United player Ella Toone was named her deputy.
Recently, legendary former United men's team manager Ferguson caught up with the new women's team captain and the 82-year-old shared a motivational message ahead of the 2024-25 WSL season.
In a video released by the Red Devils, Ferguson can be heard saying: "Well, Maya, may I congratulate you on this wonderful achievement. You have a responsibility to show your character for everyone. And to me, responsibility is taking charge of a great club. And I think that everyone would be delighted that you've got this responsibility to do that. And you've been here a few years, it's not new to you. And I think over the years if you look at, okay, from the men's point of view, we had some great captains. One's here today, Bryan Robson. Fantastic captain and he had that great driving force about him that players respond to. And I think you can do that without a question."
Le Tissier in turn said: "It's an honour to captain your club and I'll do everything I can do to put us back to winning ways."
Marc Skinner's side will play their opening Women's Super League game of the 2024-25 season against West Ham at Old Trafford on Saturday.
