For the fourth time in their last five Championship games, Leeds United managed to keep a rather comfortable clean sheet last weekend as the hosts visited South Wales on Saturday and hammered the final nail in Erol Bulut's coffin at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The dismissal of Bluebirds left-back Joel Bagan on 23 minutes set the tone for the game, with the Whites dominating possession and securing victory through Largie Ramazani's first goal for the club and Joel Piroe's second of the campaign.
Despite the ease of victory at the Cardiff City Stadium, questions were still being asked about Leeds' midfield formation, with many fans criticising Daniel Farke's decision to stick with a double pivot of Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev despite their numerical advantage.
Nevertheless, a routine win in Wales lifted the Whites to sixth in the table ahead of the October international break, five points behind leaders West Bromwich Albion and four behind second-placed Sunderland, who have made a sensational start to the season under Regis Le Bris.
Before work begins on the redevelopment of Elland Road, which will increase its capacity to 53,000, Leeds will need to find some positive momentum at their Yorkshire base, where Farke's side have won just one of their four games in all competitions so far this season.
After a four-match unbeaten run in the Championship and EFL Cup in August, Coventry City's performances and results have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, with a 2-1 defeat at Swansea City last Saturday extending their winless run in the second tier to four games.
The Sky Blues gave themselves a mountain to climb in the second half, conceding two goals in the opening 32 minutes through Liam Cullen and Oliver Cooper, and although a Ronald Pereira own goal gave the hosts a glimmer of hope, they were unable to find an equaliser in the second half in the East Midlands.
With just two points from their last four Championship games, Coventry currently sit 19th in the table with a paltry five points, six behind Saturday's opponents Leeds, who occupy the bottom two play-off places.
The Sky Blues' long-term form will also be of particular concern to manager Mark Robins, with the visitors having won just one of their last 12 Championship games going back to the start of April, a run that has seen Coventry enjoy a record often associated with relegation candidates for much of the calendar year.
Haji Wright and Ellis Simms, who combined to score 29 second-tier goals in 2023-24, have struggled to find the net for Coventry this time around, with the attacking duo netting just twice in 12 league appearances between them.
Ao Tanaka, who has come off the bench in recent weeks, is edging closer to a full Leeds debut, although Farke is unlikely to drop either Gruev or Ampadu after last weekend's win in Cardiff.
The Whites will be without the services of Dan James as the Wales international recovers from a hamstring problem sustained earlier this month.
Max Wober and Tottenham Hotspur loanee Manor Solomon were both left out of last Saturday's squad and it remains to be seen whether either will be fit for this game.
Meanwhile, Coventry fans are awaiting news on a serious knee injury to Jamie Allen, who was forced off in the first half of the defeat to Swansea.
The Sky Blues are heading for a major fitness crisis in midfield, although Ben Sheaf's gradual return from injury should bolster the Robins' options in that area.
Raphael Borges Rodrigues continues to recover from a leg injury, with the Australian youngster yet to feature for his new employers since joining from the A-League in the summer.
Leeds United possible starting lineup:
