Como vs Hellas Verona

Match preview

After five games, Cesc Fàbregas's Como finally celebrated their first win of the 2024-25 season. They beat last term's Europa League champions Atalanta BC 3-2 in Bergamo.

Even though they were down 1-0 after 18 minutes thanks to Davide Zappacosta, the promoted side scored three times in 12 minutes to lead 3-1. Then, in stoppage time at the end of the game, Ademola Lookman scored to make it 3-2.

That win was the club's first since they were promoted again and it was exactly 21 years and four months since they last won. It took them up to 15th place in the standings and they're hoping to build on that success and an ongoing undefeated sequence.

While the Azzurri still have some work to do on the defensive side of things, with their last two games producing nine goals, four points from an available six should please their Spanish head coach.

After a tough start that saw the Lariani only pick up one point from three rounds, fans are hoping recent results show an extended upswing to allay fears of being overwhelmed in the big time.

Verona are heading to Lombardy this weekend. They had a strong start to the season, but their results have been disappointing recently. The Gialloblu have lost two matches in a row after winning six of the first three games.

Verona have lost two Serie A matches in a row for the first time since January, when they were beaten by Salernitana and Inter. The latest reverse was a 3-2 defeat against Torino, followed by a 2-1 loss against Lazio in round four.

Paolo Zanetti is hoping to avoid a third straight league defeat for the Mastiffs, who haven't suffered a losing streak like that since November last year, when the club lost five matches in a row.

Verona have a poor record against this weekend's opponents, having failed to beat them in 10 of 11 visits across the professional divisions in Italian football.

We'll have to wait and see if Zanetti can turn things around on Sunday. Como are coming into the game full of confidence, while Verona are reeling from recent disappointments.
