Soccer News 2024/10/09 06:15
After a rough start to the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Costa Rica, Guadeloupe got their Nations League campaign back on track against Suriname.
It was their first win of the tournament in League A and moved them to within a point of Guatemala and Costa Rica at the top of the group.
Jocelyn Angloma's side have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in each.
However, they have lost two of their last three domestic fixtures outside Guadeloupe, with a 2-0 win over Sint Maarten in between.
The Gwada Boys have never lost consecutive away Nations League matches in the same season, but that streak will come to an end if they lose on Friday.
Guadeloupe have not conceded a first-half goal all year and have not lost when leading in the final 45 minutes since Guatemala beat them 3-2 at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July 2023.
It was a nightmare start for Martinique on the second matchday as they found themselves two goals down after 24 minutes, but to their credit they responded well to earn a point.
It was also the first time they had come from behind to claim a point in a Nations League match since September 2019, when they overturned a 2-0 half-time deficit to draw 2-2 with Trinidad and Tobago.
Marc Collat's side have lost just once in their last five Nations League matches, but are still searching for their first away win of the tournament.
Les Matinino go into the game on a four-match winless run in all competitions and have not won outside Martinique since beating El Salvador 2-1 at the 2023 Gold Cup.
The five goals they have conceded in their last two competitive matches is one more than they had conceded in their previous five matches.
Martinique are unbeaten in their last three away matches against Guadeloupe, having beaten them 4-3 in a friendly at the Stade Robert Bobin over two years ago.
There were three new faces in Guadeloupe's starting eleven on matchday two, with Junior Senneville, Alexandre Arenate and Kilian Bevis replacing Jerome Roussillon, Jordan Leborgne and Marcus Coco.
Leborgne scored his first international goal in the previous meeting as Teddy Bartouche made six saves to keep a clean sheet.
A red card for Florent Poulolo means he will miss this match for Martinique through suspension, while Johnny Marajo was the only newcomer to start against Guyana, taking Patrick Burner's place in a front three.
Brighton Labeau moved into a tie with Mickael Biron and Jordy Delem for seventh most prolific goalscorer for the national team when he and Rudy Varane scored to earn a point in their last outing.
Guadeloupe possible starting lineup:
Bartouche; Cavare, Gravillon, Saintini, Roussillon; Cadiou, Solvet, Baron; Mirval, Ambrose, Phaeton
Martinique possible starting lineup:
Clementia; Dussaut, Moltenis, Bellance, Moutachy; Mandouki, Appin, Renel; Fabien, Labeau, Biron
Prediction:Guadeloupe 2-2 Martinique
