Son Heung-min's father has reportedly been fined for violating child welfare laws at his football academy.
According to the Associated Press, via Washington Times, the Tottenham star's dad, Son Woong-jung, was fined €2,200 (£1,683) by the Chuncheon District Court for the violation at the Son Football Academy. The report adds two coaches at the academy in Chuncheon, South Korea, were fined the same amount on Friday.
The report adds the parents of a young player claim their son was hit by one of the two academy coaches with a corner flag and subjected to verbal abuse. Son's father, who is a director at the academy, has reportedly denied any wrongdoing but offered an apology and promised to evaluate his coaching methods.
The academy opened in 2021, with South Korean international and Spurs forward Son reportedly funding much of the €15m ($11.4m) project.
Son, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, will hope to be back for Tottenham's next Premier League game at home to London rivals West Ham on October 19. However, the 32-year-old may be an injury doubt as he was ruled out of South Korea's fixtures World Cup Qualifiers against Jordan and Iraq this month.
