Parc des Princes

PSG vs Strasbourg

Match preview

A 1-1 draw away at the Allianz Riviera in Ligue 1's final game before the international break saw PSG lose their grip on top spot for the first time this season, and it could have been worse had it not been for Moise Bombito's second-half own goal.

An inability to hold firm defensively could prove costly if Monaco's excellent start continues, as the Principality club boast the best defensive record in the competition, a department in which PSG are currently lacking.

Enrique's men have conceded in 12 of their last 14 league games, and the loss of Kylian Mbappe's goals means they can no longer rely on simply outshooting their opponents.

After three games without a win away from home, PSG will be delighted to be back on home soil, but they will have to put those problems right away from the Parc des Princes, with Le Classique on the horizon next week against a Marseille side who are also in good form under Roberto De Zerbi.

The hosts have done their job in front of the Parc des Princes faithful so far, though, and three points here will see them win their first four league games of the season for only the fourth time in the 21st century.

All the stats suggest that the capital club will do the same, as they have never lost a home league game to Strasbourg in 33 meetings, winning 26 - the longest unbeaten run against any single opponent.

However, the Alsace outfit will be no pushovers if they can replicate the performances they have shown so far this season.

Just one defeat in their opening seven games is Strasbourg's best start to a season since 1995, when they also lost just once, and it will give them the belief that they can make another run at Europe, as they did in 2022-23

Last year was a struggle as Strasbourg went from European hopefuls to relegation candidates, but their current position in the top seven suggests there will be no such fears this time around.

However, to truly challenge for Europe's spots, manager Liam Rosenior knows he needs to improve his side's away form, as no team in Ligue 1 has won fewer away games in 2024 than Strasbourg.

It is not for lack of trying, however, as Strasbourg have been rather unlucky in their last two away games, leading 3-1 at Lyon and 3-2 at Lille but only taking a point from the two games.
