Neymar's boyhood club Santos paid tribute to the Brazil icon as he returned from injury after a year out injured.
The 32-year-old attacker ruptured his ACL on international duty a year ago, but on Monday, he finally returned to action with Al-Hilal in their dramatic AFC Champions League win against United Arab Emirates club Al Ain. The Brazilian was introduced to the pitch in the 77th minute, replacing Nasser Al-Dawsari.
As the star attacker made a comeback, his boyhood club Santos paid a heart-warming tribute, writing on X: "It was more than 12 months away from the pitch, with an immeasurable longing to return to doing what he loves so much. Neymar is not just a star. He is not just a genius. Neymar is synonymous with joy in football. His return brings joy to millions of fans around the world. And when it comes to fans, the Santos nation has an incomparable feeling. A more than special bond with the best Brazilian player in recent years. It's good to see you back, eternal Village Boy. Go get them!"
Neymar made a big-money move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain. However, he has endured a difficult start to life in the Middle East. Neymar was sidelined with an injury after appearing in just five matches for his new club, where he scored once and provided three assists. He also missed Copa America 2024 as Brazil were eliminated at the quarter-final stage.
The former Barcelona star will likely be back in action this weekend as the reigning Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal face Al-Taawoun in a league clash on Saturday.
