In last night's English League Cup match, Arsenal played Preston from the Championship. Arsenal won the game easily with three goals away from home, and they're through to the next round of the League Cup.
Head coach Mikel Arteta says Ethan Nwaneri can "dictate" how quickly he becomes a first-team regular after impressing in Arsenal's Carabao Cup win over Championship side Preston.
The 17-year-old midfielder had a great first half, helping Gabriel Jesus score his first goal since January to give Arsenal the lead.
Substitute Kai Havertz scored the final goal for the Gunners in the second half. They'll be hosting Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals the week commencing 16 December.
Nwaneri, who scored his first senior goal in the 5-1 win over Bolton in the previous round, also hit the crossbar on Wednesday but was cheered on by the visiting fans after being substituted.
"He's got talent, he's got the right attitude, he's got the right players and environment around him," Arteta said.
"We need to make sure we build up the team brick by brick, at the right pace, in the right order, but we have some players there."
Nwaneri became the youngest player to appear in the Premier League at just 15 years and 181 days old when he made his debut against Brentford in September 2022.
The only surprise was that Arteta chose to bring on the likes of Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka after the break, which wasn't likely to be his priority.
On top of Nwaneri's impressive showing, Arteta was also excited to see what the future holds, with two 18-year-olds – goalkeeper Tommy Thetford and defender Aiden Haven – making their debuts.
Next up, Arsenal will be back in the Premier League, where they'll face Newcastle, who just beat Chelsea 2-0 in the English League Cup. Then, five days later, they'll kick off a new round of the Champions League against Inter Milan of Serie A.
