Torino vs Fiorentina

Match preview

After an impressive start to the season in charge of Torino, Paolo Vanoli has come under fire for his side's recent slump in the standings.

After league defeats to Lazio, Inter Milan and Cagliari - and a Coppa Italia exit at the hands of Empoli - the Granata finally stopped the rot last week with a 1-0 win over Como.

However, they suffered a further setback on Thursday night when they were beaten by a Roma side who have also endured difficult times, following a performance that Vanoli criticised for its passivity against "wounded" opponents.

Torino's dip in form coincided with a season-ending injury to captain Duvan Zapata, and goals have been harder to come by since the Colombian striker was sidelined.

Nevertheless, they remain in the top half of the Serie A table after 10 rounds of the 2024-25 campaign, just five points behind Sunday's opponents.

In contrast to their hosts' misfortune on Halloween, Fiorentina treated their fans to another victory as they ran out 1-0 winners at Genoa.

David de Gea was named man of the match for a string of saves and flying full-back Robin Gosens scored the only goal midway through the second half at the Marassi to lift the Viola to fourth.

That success made it six wins in a row in all competitions, scoring 20 goals in the process - and the 19 points is their best tally at this stage of a league campaign since 2015.

Within two points of second-placed Inter, the Viola have recovered from a slow start to the Serie A campaign, while two Conference League victories have kept them on course for a third successive final appearance.

Raffaele Palladino's switch to a back four has clearly worked wonders, getting the best out of a talented squad, and he will be hoping to extend Fiorentina's four-match unbeaten run against Torino.

Team News

After Fiorentina frontman Moise Kean was ruled out of Thursday's game with a minor ankle injury, it remains to be seen whether Christian Kouame will be called upon to deputise in Turin.

Kean's strike partner Albert Gudmundsson remains sidelined, while Danilo Cataldi and Croatian centre-back Marin Pongracic remain doubts for the weekend.

Between the trips to Genoa and Cyprus, coach Raffaele Palladino could make a handful of changes to his starting XI, with Yacine Adli and Pietro Comuzzo likely to come in off the bench.

Meanwhile, Torino will again be without Ivan Ilic and long-term absentee Duvan Zapata, while Perr Schuurs is still recovering from an ACL injury. Borna Sosa, however, returned to the bench in midweek.

With Zapata unavailable and Nikola Vlasic generally being used in a deeper role, Che Adams and Antonio Sanabria will continue to start up front, despite having just one goal between them in their last three games.

Possible starting lineups

Torino possible starting lineup:

Milinkovic-Savic; Coco, Maripan, Masina; Pedersen, Ricci, Linetty, Vlasic, Lazaro; Adams, Sanabria

Fiorentina possible starting lineup:

De Gea; Dodo, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Gosens; Adli, Richardson; Ikone, Beltran, Sottil; Kouame
