England have made it to the top flight of the UEFA Nations League with a 5-0 win over Ireland.
The first half ended goalless, but the second half saw a change in momentum when Liam Scales fouled Jude Bellingham, resulting in a penalty for England. Scales was sent off and Harry Kane scored the penalty. England then took advantage of having an extra man on the pitch and scored to make it 5-0.
Lee Carsley finished his time as interim head coach with a 5-0 win against a ten-man Ireland side, leading England back to the UEFA Nations League A. Anthony Gordon, Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen and Taylor Harwood-Bellis scored their first international goals for England.
England had trouble getting past the Irish defence in the first half. The main topic of discussion in the opening 45 minutes was whether the visitors should have been awarded a penalty after Kyle Walker fouled Sammie Szmodics.
The hosts finally broke the deadlock in a second half that was a real contrast. They scored three goals in five minutes after Liam Scales was sent off for fouling Jude Bellingham and was awarded a penalty, which Harry Kane converted with determination.
England quickly made it 2-0 when Gordon volleyed home from a cross by club teammate Tino Livramento. Conor Gallagher added another from close range in corner attack.
Jarrod Bowen came off the bench and scored with his first touch, and Harwood-Bellis headed the ball past Kelleher to cap a memorable night. And that is the every goal tonight.
Former Ireland international Carsley has finished his time with the England team. He took over when the FA was looking for a new manager and helped the Three Lions get back into the top tier of National League football. He's already made it easier for the new manager, Thomas Tuchel, by avoiding the Nations League promotion play-offs in March. The German can now focus on 2026 World Cup qualification when he starts in January.
