Claudio Ranieri has already gotten an idea as to why Mats Hummels has not made an impact at Roma yet.

The veteran technician in fact was unable to rely on the German defender on Tuesday as Hummels called in sick after catching the flu over the weekend.

The athletic tests, but also the closely observed training sessions, have revealed that Hummels has not yet reached the level of his teammates.

The newspaper claims that Hummels struggles a lot if the intensity of the work increases.

Ranieri, who was the first to ask himself “why doesn’t this boy play?”, gave himself a fairly quick answer: the German centreback doesn’t play because he is behind in condition.

Thus, against Napoli Hummels is likely to head to the bench once more as Roma do not wish to take on any risks while facing Romelu Lukaku.
