It's now 20 goals in 18 games for Robert Lewandowski after the match against Real Club Celta de Vigo at the Balaídos stadium. The Barça number 9's score of goals is testament to a superb start to the season. He is currently leading the goalscoring across the top five European leagues, tied with Harry Kane (20), but ahead of other players such as Erling Haaland (15).
Only Messi scored more
We have to go back 13 years and to the 2011/2012 season to find better numbers than the Pole is currently putting up. Leo Messi managed 22 in the first 17 games, two more than Lewy this year. The Argentinian reached the 20-goal mark in his 17th match (a hat-trick away to Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League), i.e. in one game fewer than Lewy.
Precedent with Bayern
These may be some serious numbers, but Robert Lewandowski has already reached 20 goals more quickly twice before – in the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons. Playing for Bayern Munich at the time, he reached the figure in 16 games, two fewer than this season.
On fire
The Pole is continuing his fine form since Hansi Flick was named as blaugrana coach. He has scored in 12 out of 18 LaLiga and Champions League matches. Lewy scored a brace against FK Crvena zvezda, one of which was the 700th goal in Barça's history in the Champions League. The most goals in one match this season came away to Alavés, his hat-trick sealing the win for the blaugranes (0-3).
Leading scorer in two metrics
Looking more closely at the top scorer tables, Lewandowski is leading the way both in LaLiga and the Champions League. He already has 15 goals in the domestic championship, significantly ahead of Vinicius Jr, who had eight before Real Madrid's match against Leganés. In Europe, he is tied with Harry Kane, Viktor Gyokeres and Raphinha (all having scored five goals).
