Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says his club can't afford to sign a Premier League quality striker in January.
The Magpies saw Alexander Isak go off with injury during their 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, while Callum Wilson is still returning to full fitness after his own injury issue.
Newcastle have scored just 14 goals in 13 games this season but Howe says he must look to internal solutions to get his team firing again.
"Fully fit Premier League strikers will cost us an extortionate amount of money we don’t have," he said when asked if the answer lay in the transfer window.
"We have to back the players we have. Callum has had minimal training time. I didn’t feel bringing him on at that stage was something I could do."
On Newcastle's scoring problems, he added: "It’s a difficult one to answer. We haven’t changed our attacking philosophy in any way. It’s something we’re aware of and continue to work to improve. I’ve got no issue with the quality of players we have.
"Confidence is very fragile. We need to try to get [the attackers] in their best form. That’s a delicate thing as well. You need them in form at the same time and we haven’t had that yet this season."
On Isak's injury he said:
"It was a contact injury, not a muscle pull which is good news for us. Hopefully he’ll recover quickly but at this moment I don’t know."
