The Boston Red Sox are looking for a righty bat that can help balance out their lineup, and this proposed signing would definitely solve it. This signing would bring New York Mets superstar slugger first baseman Pete Alonso for six-years, $159 million dollars.

Alonso was pretty good last season, slashing .240/.329/.459/.788 with 34 homers and 31 doubles. His availability was amazing, as he joined Club 162, playing in every game in the entire season.

Alonso would be able to work in two ways depending on the conditions: One, he could be the DH, and the Sox would have to get rid of Masataka Yoshida somehow. Two, they decided to trade Triston Casas, and have Alonso play first base.

The most likely scenario is probably the first one. Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow said that he wasn’t planning on trading Casas, so it’s pretty unlikely.

That leaves the Sox with getting him as a DH. It shouldn’t be too hard to move Yoshida, as there are a few mock trades that get him out of Boston.

While the Sox may not land him, it wouldn’t hurt to try. Hopefully, they get who they need and become a playoff contender again.
