Tom Cairney, Fulham's captain, came off the bench to rescue a point before being sent off in a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. The hosts took the lead after Brennan Johnson's volley.
Fulham played well in the first half, but Son Heung-Min missed a good chance in the opening minute after Timo Werner intercepted a risky pass out of defence.
Raúl Jiménez had two chances to score, but Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster saved him both times. Forster was making his first league appearance this season, replacing the injured Guglielmo Vicario.
Forster made a great save at full stretch to keep out the striker's header, which was heading for the goal, after he found Jiménez in space in the box.Spurs also had a chance when Radu Dragusin's header from a well-worked corner was saved by Bernd Leno.
Fulham were the more dangerous team, though, and came close to scoring just before half-time with a quick counter-attack, but Alex Iwobi's shot hit the bar.
The visitors were on the ball after the break too, but Spurs took the lead in the 54th minute through Johnson's third goal in four games.
Werner's cross to the back post found Johnson in a great position and he finished neatly past Leno to give Spurs a surprising lead.
Cairney levelled the game for Fulham in the 67th minute with a clever finish from the edge of the box that Forster couldn't get to.
Cairney was sent off seven minutes from time for raking his studs down Dejan Kulusevski's calf. The referee, Darren Bond, upgraded his initial yellow card to a red after being sent to the pitchside monitor by VAR.
Fulham managed to hold on and secure a well-deserved point, putting them in 10th place with 19 points from 13 games.Spurs, with only their second league draw this season, moved up to seventh with 20 points and are now just three points behind fourth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.
