The Los Angeles Dodgers will be chasing back-to-back World Series titles in 2025. Despite already having so many stars on their team, they could look to add more this offseason.
The Dodgers have already shown they will not shy away from major moves this winter. They signed Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal. They are also in the mix to land Juan Soto. They are among five teams confirmed to have made an offer to Soto. FanSided's Curt Bishop proposed this trade with the St. Louis Cardinals that brings multiple All-Stars to the Dodgers:
Dodgers receive: right-handed pitcher Ryan Helsley and third baseman Nolan Arenado
Cardinals receive: catcher/outfielder Daulton Rushing, right-handed pitcher Nick Frasso and infielder/outfielder Austin Gauthier
The Cardinals look to be headed toward a long rebuild and need to get younger. They do not seem like a team in a position to sign a star closer to a long-term deal, thus them being expected to listen to offers for Helsley. They would be getting the Dodgers No. 1, No. 12 and No. 24 overall prospects according to MLB Pipeline.
Spotrac projects Helsley to sign a six-year, $81 million deal when he hits free agency after this season. The Cardinals are likely not going to spend that kind of money during a potential rebuild. Arenado is playing on an eight-year, $260 million deal he signed with the Colorado Rockies before getting traded to the Cardinals. This proposed trade sheds payroll while adding young prospects for the future.
Arenado slashed .272/.325/.394 in a down year. He is still a productive player and would take over in the hot corner for the Dodgers. He is an eight-time All-STar and 10-time Gold Glover. Helsley just led Major League Baseball in saves and earned his second All-Star nod. He could instantly bring stability to the closer role.
