Veteran catcher/DH Gary Sánchez is in agreement with the Orioles on a one-year deal reports MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The club has not confirmed the deal.
Though Sánchez struggled to build off his early success with the Yankees, he still has some pop in his bat.
The veteran catcher/designated hitter hit 11 home runs in 89 games with the Brewers last season after hitting 19 in just 72 games with the Padres in 2023. Including three homerless games with the Mets in 2023, Sánchez has combined for 30 home runs, 84 RBIs and a 101 OPS+ in 164 games over the past two seasons.
Sánchez finished second in the 2016 AL Rookie of the Year voting after bursting onto the scene with 20 homers in just 53 games with the Yanks. He followed it up with a 33-homer campaign that saw Sánchez earn the first of his two All-Star selections and his lone Silver Slugger Award while earning some down-ballot AL MVP votes.
Though he remained a home run threat in the years that followed, Sánchez hit just .187 over 166 games from 2020-21 before being traded to the Twins during Spring Training in ‘22.
