Another Kylian Mbappé injury sparks concern: How long will he be out for?

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé was forced from the field before halftime in his side’s Champions League game against Atalanta with another injury concern.

The Frenchman had made a promising start to the game, opening the scoring with his 50th UCL goal, but was substituted with ten minutes remaining in the first half after picking up an injury.

No official update has yet been issued by the club but it appeared to be a muscular issue, unrelated to any on-field contact. This would be the latest in a string of muscular issues suffered by Mbappé since his long-awaited move to Madrid in the summer.

What is the latest Kylian Mbappé injury?

It’s not yet clear what the injury is, or the extent of the issue. He was able to walk from the field but another muscular problem would be a concern for the Madrid medical staff. ESPN report that Mbappé had "felt discomfort in his left thigh" and will undergo further testing back in Madrid on Wednesday.

The frequency of muscular issues will becoming a concern for some Real Madrid fans, who have not seen the best of Mbappé. He missed the 1-1 draw with rivals Atlético Madrid back in September due to a muscle injury and he also sat out France’s fixtures in October and November to allow him time to recover from knocks.

There have already been signs that Mbappé may struggle to replicate his Paris Saint-Germain performances in the Spanish capital, where he is largely being fielded in a more central role. However head coach Carlo Ancelotti reiterated his faith in Mbappé last month, insisting that he will show his full potential in Spain.

“It happens with strikers who find it hard to score and are a bit disappointed at not doing so. The medicine is to be patient. It’s a difficult moment for him. Today, above all, because of the missed penalty. Everyone has to support him, and he’ll soon come out on top,” Ancelotti said.
