Match preview

The emotional high Rennes enjoyed at the end of November was short-lived as they followed up a 5-0 triumph over Saint-Etienne with a dismal performance in front of goal last week.

The Brittany outfit go into the game having lost four of their last five Ligue 1 matches, failing to find the back of the net in each of those defeats.

This weekend at Roazhon Park, they have the chance to make it three in a row, which would be their longest home winning streak of the season.

Les Rouge et Noirs have won eight of their last nine Ligue 1 home games against newly-promoted teams, including a lopsided triumph over Saint-Etienne last time out.

It was Jorge Sampaoli's first win in charge of the club and 13 of Rennes' 14 points this season have come at Roazhon Park.

The Stade Rennais have won their last three Ligue 1 meetings with Angers, and another win on Sunday would make it four in a row in the competition for the first time in the club's history.

Another poor showing at home to Angers last weekend prevented them from moving up the table and putting more distance between themselves and relegation.

As things stand, Alexandre Dujeux's men are just one point above Le Havre and a return to Ligue 2, while they are only ahead of Saint-Etienne on goal difference.

Les Scoistes have taken at least a point in five of their last six top-flight away games, conceding a goal or less on each occasion.

Victory this weekend would give the Pays de la Loire club back-to-back away wins in the competition for the first time since 2020.

Angers have won their last three domestic encounters when scoring first and have not lost when drawing first blood all season.

After 14 rounds of matches this season, they have 13 points, five more than at this stage of their last Ligue 1 campaign in 2022-23.
