Roma beat Sampdoria 4-1 to book a place in the quarter-finals against Milan. In the first half, Dovbyk scored twice in the 9th and 19th minutes and Baldanzi netted in the 24th minute.
At the start of the second half, Sampdoria coach Semlich made two substitutions: De Paoli and Ioannou were replaced by Viroli and Estanis Pedrola.
The Ligurians continued to attack for the next quarter of an hour, causing Roma problems. In the 61st minute, Sampdoria won the ball on the right and De Paoli crossed for Yepes, who stopped the ball in the penalty area and fired home.
Two minutes later, Soulé, who had just come on as a substitute, shot with his left foot from outside the area and hit the crossbar. In the 65th minute, Soulé dribbled the ball again and passed to Dovbyk, who was in front of Vismara, but the Sampdoria goalkeeper saved.
Roma made another substitution in the 77th minute, with Shomurodov coming on and Dovbyk coming off the bench. Just 2 minutes from time, Angeliño crossed from the left and Shomurodov raced into the box and fired the ball into the net for Roma's fourth goal.
There were smiles on the faces of the Roma faithful as the club now have a place in the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup, where they will face AC Milan.
The focus will now turn back to the league. After an unexpected defeat to Como in the last round, Roma are still 12th in the standings and their next game will be against Parma.
