Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is understandably “devastated” to have suffered a fresh setback that will keep him out of the Reds’ upcoming matches.

United's no.7 posted a short message on social media on Friday night, after head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that the midfielder will be out for “several weeks” with the issue that he sustained in the first half of last weekend’s Manchester derby.

Mount, who has endured a tough run with injuries since joining the club in the summer of 2023, was visibly saddened as he was withdrawn at the Etihad Stadium and has now shared a further insight into how he is feeling as he prepares for a spell on the sidelines over the festive period.

Mount began an emotional post by saying: “Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.

“United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith.

“I’ve said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won’t stop until that’s achieved.”

Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee are among those to have reshared the post on Instagram with kind words, as everyone at United offers their support to the midfielder at a tough time.

Mason is a popular member of the dressing room, and while it is a bitter blow for him to be ruled out having been able to build up a run of minutes since our new head coach’s arrival, it is clear that his determined personality and character has already rubbed off on Amorim.

Ahead of his first game in charge at Ipswich last month, Ruben spoke of his affection for the midfielder’s attitude and, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Bournemouth, reiterated his plan to continue to be there for Mount.

“What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he's recovering,” Amorim told journalists.

“To try to use that time for him to think about different things. I think the worst part is that we don't have time to train like we should do, when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.

“With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end.”
