19th-placed Valencia, who sacked Ruben Baraja, have appointed WBA manager Corberan as their new coach!
Valencia have appointed West Bromwich Albion (WBA) manager Carlos Corberan as their new manager.
Valencia have announced the appointment of West Bromwich Albion (WBA) manager Carlos Corberan as their new manager. The deal runs until the summer of 2027. It has also been reported that the termination fee stipulated in the contract has been paid to WBA. According to the BBC, the amount is between £3 million (approximately 590 million yen) and £4 million (approximately 790 million yen).
Since retiring from playing, 41-year-old Corberan, a native of Spain, has managed Leeds' youth team, Huddersfield, Olympiacos and other clubs. After taking over at WBA in October 2022, he finished 9th in his first season, and despite losing to Southampton in the play-off semi-finals last season, he finished 5th in the league. They have played 22 games so far this season and are provisionally 7th in the table with 8 wins, 11 draws and 3 defeats. The team is still capable of challenging for a higher position and his skills are highly regarded.
Ruben Baraja saved Valencia from relegation in 2022-23 and led them to a 9th place finish in La Liga last season. However, he has only won 2 of his 17 league games this term. After the team slumped to 19th place, second from bottom, the coach was sacked on 23 March.
