The hosts took the lead in the first half courtesy of a brilliant Rooney free-kick before Gary Hooper equalised for the Scottish team. The visitors clinched the tie in penalty shootout 5-4 as Danny Webber missed his spot-kick.

After the game, Berbatov, who spent four years at United alongside Rooney and won multiple trophies including the Premier League and the Champions League, shared a message on social media for his former colleague.

The Bulgarian took to Instagram where he shared a photograph of himself sitting alongside Rooney in the dressing room and wrote in the caption: "The Odd Couple".
