Germany vs Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 2024 Nations League Group C match on Friday, 11th October 2024, at Bilino Polje Stadium, in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On Thursday, Germany's coach Julian Nagelsmann said that Oliver Baumann will play in two upcoming Nations League matches instead of the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Gnabry and Rudiger will play against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 11 October and the Netherlands in Munich on 14 October.
Nagelsmann has called up Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst for the squad, replacing injured West Ham forward Niclas Fullkrug. In September, Ter Stegen hurt his knee playing for Barcelona.
Baumann is set to make his debut for Germany after Neuer retired. On Wednesday, Bild said that Baumann might share goalkeeping responsibilities with Alexander Nübel in the upcoming matches.
However, the coach said Baumann would play in both games. "He's our top choice," Nagelsmann said. Baumann was called up to the national team in 2020 but has not played in an international match.
Since the start of 2023, Nagelsmann has picked players based on how they are playing, choosing talent from lesser-known clubs instead of well-known players.
Bayern's Leon Goretzka was absent, as was Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi, despite scoring 10 goals in his last seven matches. Real Madrid's defender Rudiger is back after being given a break following Germany's quarter-final exit at Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, Gnabry is also making his return after recovering from an injury that sidelined him during the tournament. Emre Can and Maximilian Beier from Dortmund will also be absent.
The 26-man squad of Bosnia and Herzegovina is as follows: Dzeko, Demirovic, Huseyin Bašić, Tahirovic, Dedic, Kolasinac and others are all included in the squad. Since entering 2024, the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team has not won an international match, with a record of 1 draw and 4 losses. It is now ranked third in Group C of the UEFA Nations League.
