Sesko heads home - Brown with the leveller
RBL's fast start to the game was reminiscent of their performance against the same opposition just over a week ago as they triumphed 3-0 in a last-16 DFB-Pokal encounter. A lovely attacking move culminated in Benjamin Sesko giving RBL the lead early on (19').
Both teams had chances following the opener, and it would be the visitors to strike back. Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown scored a longe-range effort to level things up going into the break (40').
Openda strikes shortly after the restart
The Leipzig boys once again looked the better side at the start of the second half. Lois Openda was able to make the early dominance count, scoring a textbook volley to make it 2-1 (52'). It remained an intense affair right up until the final whistle.
Just before the final whistle, Benjamin Sesko looked to have sealed the deal with a third goal - but the last-gasp goal was ruled out by VAR for an offside in the build-up that was just as close a call as Christoph Baumgartner's in the first minute of the game.
The three points on Saturday afternoon means we draw level with Frankfurt on points (27).
Xaver Schlager starts, David Raum back in the squad
Good news for Xaver Schlager: The Austria international returned to RBL's starting XI exactly 226 days after a ligament injury and was a big part of the action before coming off in the 66th minute. Xaver's last start for the club was on 3rd May 2024 in the 1-1 away stalemate against Hoffenheim.
David Raum was back in the matchday squad.
